Today will be talking about how to brush those walking hairballs of yours. To readers who already own a cat, this will go without saying: cats cannot just be brushed out of the blue. Timing is very crucial as cats will gladly brush you back with its claws if it felt that you annoy it by a sudden grooming.
Pick a suitable time, where cats are mostly calm. Like after a meal. Start with soft brushing about 5-10 minutes. If the cat protests, try to buy it with treats and if that does not work, stop, and try again later.
Never ever brush their fur on the opposite direction that their hair naturally lays. Make sure to be extra gentle around the belly and chest where this is the part where cats are mostly felt insecure of.
For shorthaired cats:
Start with a fine-toothed metal comb. Run it through the cat’s fur from head to tail tip. Look out for small pepper-like specks that could indicate the presence of cat fleas.
Use a bristle or soft rubber brush next to remove loose hair.
For longhaired cats:
Start with a wide-toothed comb to remove dusts that may be caught in the cat’s coat. Make sure to carefully untangle any knots.
Next use a wire brush or a bristle brush to remove loose hair.
Consider using a toothbrush to brush around the cat’s face but make sure that the toothbrush is soft enough so that your cat will not feel irritated or even hurt.

Cat grooming tools
For owners who want to trim their cat’s claw, you have to start early on this in order for the cat to get used to it. Start off by getting your cat to be used to its hand being held. Note: cats DO NOT like their hands being held or pet for too long, but this can be changed if you are willing not to give up.
Spend some time holding and massaging their hands and feet. Then, very gently press with your thumb on the pad of each toe, causing the claw to come out. The cat will probably will get used to this in a week or two.

A special clipper for clipping cat's nail
You can begin clipping once the mood is stable. Use high quality clippers or a clipper that is specially designed for clipping cat claws. Clip only the white tip and avoid the pinkish area which you can see through the translucent claw.
